Shakira Tsindos, Bmus Hons (Melb)

Mezzo soprano Shakira Tsindos is currently completing the Guildhall Artist Masters in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, United Kingdom under the tutelage of esteemed soprano Yvonne Kenny AM.

In 2016, Shakira was a Developing Artist with Victorian Opera (State Opera Company), the recipient of the Joseph Sambrook Opera Scholarship with the Melba Opera Trust and a finalist in the Opera Scholars Australia (OSA) Scholar of the Year competition. Shakira also holds the Acclaim Awards Italian Opera Fellowship Prize 2017.

Shakira has been an active performer in the national and state opera companies in Australia including Opera Australia and Victorian Opera, performing the roles of Agatha the Cat in By the Light of the Moon for Opera Australia, and Dorothée in Cendrillon, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Mrs Mayor in The Pied Piper, Il Cucolo in La bella dormente nel bosco (The Sleeping Beauty) and Possum in The Magic Pudding for Victorian Opera.

Further roles include; Dorabella in Così fan tutte with the Mediterranean Opera Festival (Sicily) and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly for The Classics series.

Shakira has performed as the alto soloist in Haydn’s The Creation with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, C. P. E. Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion, Hitchcock and Herrmann (MSO), Ravel's Shéhérazade, Saint-Saens' Christmas Oratorio, Lenthall’s Calls of War Handel’s Messiah, and most recently Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D minor KV65 in Stjørdal, Norway.

In 2018, Shakira was the winner of the third place prize in the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria, a semi-finalist in the IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition, a finalist in the Bettine McCaughan Scholarship and was a finalist for the Australian Music Foundation in London.

For three years, Shakira held a scholarship with OSA including the inaugural Peter Evans Scholarship in 2015. Performance highlights for OSA include the title role in Snow White and Other Grimm Tales, Carmen in Carmen in the Caves and performances at Opera in the Alps and Opera in the Market.

Shakira holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours degree from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where she studied with soprano Carrie Barr.
