Our Voices
Produced by ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET
Shakira is covering the mezzo soprano soloist and performing in the ensemble.
Three works showcasing the vast possibilities of ballet
The programme opens with the dazzling exuberance of Theme and Variations, a virtuosic showstopper from George Balanchine. Featuring 13 couples dancing to Tchaikovsky, this is classical ballet that is grandiose, yet light on its feet. Intricate choreography, technical bravura and exquisite musicality all lead to a triumphant finale that will leave you exhilarated.
Known for her visceral and imaginative movement style, Andrea Miller creates a new work to Stravinsky’s revolutionary score, Les Noces. The piece unfolds against artwork conceived by acclaimed artist Phyllida Barlow, with dancers joined on stage by the Opera Holland Park Chorus. Marking 100 years since the work’s premiere, Miller’s Les Noces examines the power of rituals and imagines the aftermath of Stravinsky’s other iconic piece, The Rite of Spring. What comes after the sacrifice?
Finally, British choreographer David Dawson takes us on a deeply moving journey with Four Last Songs. Richard Strauss’s song cycle is a musical masterpiece, often described as a poignant farewell to life. Underneath a glimpse of the heavens above, 12 dancers unite in Dawson’s poetic style to the music’s lush, lyrical melodies, ushering in a feeling of serenity, eternity and the sublime.
A celebration of classical, contemporary and neo-classical dance make this a programme not to be missed.
All of the music will be performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic, with Les Noces performed in its orchestral version, and soprano Madeleine Pierard singing Strauss’s Four Last Songs.

Rosalind
Rosalind by Peter Hugh White
A workshop.
Rosalind is by composer, Peter Hugh White and librettist, Clare Heath. It is about the discovery of DNA by Francis Crick and James Watson and how Rosalind Franklin was involved, but in the end was overlooked when it came to the Nobel Prize which was awarded to Crick and Watson alone. Franklin, apparently, contributed enormously.

La rondine
Presented by IF OPERA
Directed by Bruno Ravella
Conducted by Oliver Gooch
Designed by Flavio Graff
La rondine (The Swallow) is a moving tale of young love and heartbreak – and what else, you may ask, is opera about? Arguably Puccini’s most modern opera, La rondine was premiered in Monte Carlo in 1917, and includes one of Puccini’s most gorgeous creations, the quartet, ‘Bevo al tuo fresco sorriso’ (I drink to your beautiful smile).
Magda is our ‘rondine’ , the bird who flies towards the sun, and Ruggero is the shy country boy who eventually becomes her lover. We witness their relationship unfold in the colourful locales of Paris and the balmier climes of southern France. The love ‘quadrangle’ is made complete by Prunier, a centre-of-attention poet and Magda’s fiery maid, Lisette. Amidst waltzes, foxtrots, and soaring melodies, join us for an unmissable evening of sophistication and glamour in the enchanting surroundings of Grade 1 listed Belcombe Court.
Director Bruno Ravella, a former Iford Arts favourite, joins us fresh from extraordinary acclaim for his Rosenkavalier at Garsington in 2021. He is joined by designer Flavio Graff, and If Opera’s Artistic Director Oliver Gooch conducts.
